REST

( Mark 6:31 )

A rest is part of the music, the Lord ordained for you;
It's beats are perfectly measured--how many or how few.
The silent pause may alarm you, but God knows what is best.
Have faith in the great Composer, when He inserts a rest!

All things are working together; although your faith is tried.
Don't think that the tune is finished, because you're set aside.
It's not that you've been forsaken; you did not fail a test,
But God, to sweeten the love song, enhanced it with a rest!

The steps and stops must be blended; the short ones with the long;
The Lord is adding uniqueness and beauty to His song.
Let God take care of the music; just trust Him and be blessed.
Your life is His composition, so thank Him for the rest!

It's only a break in the music;
It's only a pause of peace.
God knew that the rest was needed!
The symphony did not cease!

ENTER HIS REST AND REST

(Hebrews 4:9,10)

Enter His rest, and rest;
Trust Him, and quiet be!
All those who do, are blessed!
They are as calm as He!

God never worries or frets over you.
He knows your problems, and what He will do.
There's no anxiety over His own.
God is at rest as He reigns from His throne!

God is at all times, uncumbered with care.
He has a rest He is willing to share.
Come to the Lord and unburden your soul.
All that concerns you is under control!

Are you uneasy, discouraged, depressed?
Jesus invites you to enter His rest!
He calms the storm, causes tensions to cease.
Enter His rest and partake of His peace!

LIKE A WEANED CHILD

(Psalm 131:1,2)

As a weaned child rests upon mother
Is content, on her bosom, to lie,
Has abandoned the tears and the tantrums,
Over things that could not satisfy;

So, my soul is reposing on Jesus,
Without thoughts of the gift or reward.
What a glorious foretaste of Heaven--
Being weaned from this world, to the LORD!

There were times when I questioned His purpose;
And His patience was put to the test;
When I harbored hard thoughts of His wisdom;
And mistakenly thought I knew best.

But His love wore away my resistance,
I was drawn by invincible grace
From the blessings that held my affections,
To Himself, and His tender embrace!

I don't bother myself with great matters;
I'm at rest, and my heart is not proud.
I'm content with whatever He gives me,
And I'm thankful for what is allowed.

God is getting me ready for Heaven,
As He draws me from this world apart;
I'm awaiting, with joy, for the weaning
That shall bring me at last to His heart!

COME, REST IN THY
TEMPLE

(II Chronicles 5:11-14)

We stand in Thy presence to worship and praise Thee;
Our hearts are on fire; our feet are unshod!
Come, rest in Thy temple, O great God of Glory;
Respond to our praise with the Glory of God!

The elders were leading the great convocation;
The heads of each family, their banner would raise;
The women and children were lost in elation;
The people of God were exulting in praise!

The voice of the instruments--cymbals and lyres,
The strings of the harp with the trumpets-- did sound;
The smoke of the sacrifice rose ever higher;
The earth with thanksgiving the praise did resound!

They offered themselves in their worship, as treasure;
The Lord bent His ear, heard His people rejoice!
He saw them united! It brought Him great pleasure
To hear them all singing His praise with one voice!

The praise of His people soon brought on the filling!
One heart and one voice, lifted in one accord
Reached Heaven--and found the Lord ready and willing
To fill, with His glory, the House of the Lord!

PEACE, PERFECT PEACE

(Ephesians 1:3-6)

Peace, perfect peace! Unsullied joy!
By every blessing, blessed!
By faith I see myself in Him
And enter into rest!

Outside of Him—what guilt! What shame!
What vanity I see!
Far better to behold myself
The way He looks at me!

The mystery is great, indeed!
Bright may His glory shine!
God sees me in His lovely Son
And calls His merits, mine!

I pray that I may ever be
With Heaven's wisdom, wise
And never look upon myself
Unless it's through His eyes!

LILY LIFE

(Matt 6:28 )

Lily Life! Lily Life!
Oh what Glory! Oh, what beauty! Oh, what bliss!
Lily Life! Lily Life!
Even Solomon was not arrayed like this!

I want to grow like the lily in the field, Lord;
Be my soil;
Be my sunshine;
Be my rain

I am weary from the labor! I will yield, Lord;
All my toil,
All my spinning
Is in vain!

To be arrayed like the lily is my prayer, Lord;
To be pure
With the Glory
From above;

I am tired of the burden I can't bear, Lord;
Grant Your life,
Grant Your beauty,
Grant Your love!

I want the life of the lily! Grant my plea, Lord;
Let me grow,
Like the lily
Free and fair;

I'm burned out by my doing, let me be, Lord;
All You want;
Without worry,
Without care!

I'M LEARNING HOW TO REST IN JESUS

(Hebrews 12:1,2)

Every trial, every test
Takes me deeper into rest!

I'll run the race that's set before me,
Yielding gladly, life and limb!
I'm learning how to rest in Jesus,
Looking only unto Him!

I'm learning how to rest in Jesus;
In the lowest valley, sing;
The heights I could not scale by climbing,
I have mounted on the wing!

Simply trusting in the Lord,
Like the eagle, I have soared!

The Lord has turned my fruitless struggle,
By His mercy, into peace;
He came to me upon the water,
Bid the raging billows, cease!

He controls the rising tide;
I am learning to abide!

I need not bow beneath the burden;
Nor be cumbered by my care!
Who bore my sins upon Mount Calvary ,
Will my lesser burdens bear!

God has made the duty mine,
But the power is Divine!

MY INNER SKY

(II Corinthians 4:16-18)

He calmed the storm; my sea is still;
I rest, contented, in His will!
The storm outside, I will not fear!
My inner sky is bright and clear!

I hear the sound of thunder;
I feel the pouring rain;
I see the chaff, before the funnel, fly;
I testify in wonder
With joy I can't explain—
There are no clouds across my inner sky!

Within, the sun is shining
Within, the sky is blue;
The storm without, I doubt not, nor deny!
Although the wind is whining;
And rising floods, ensue;
There are no clouds across my inner sky

A vanguard, of His glory;
An earnest, of His peace;
A foretaste of His heaven, here, have I!
This is my simple story,
He made all conflicts cease.
There are no clouds across my inner sky!

THE CUSHION OF THE SEA

(Isaiah 26:2)

There is a deep in the ocean,
As tranquil as can be.
The ancient seamen called this depth,
"The cushion of the sea."

Beyond the touch of the tempest,
Where fears and tensions cease,
There is a calm and placid rest;
A place of perfect peace!

I've learned, to flee to this respite
Whenever storms assail.
When waves, like mountains, threaten me;
When faith begins to fail--

I cast my burden on Jesus,
Though storms may rage above,
He is my Cushion of the sea,
The ocean is His love!

By grace I'm pressed into His rest,
Through my extremity;
When gales blow, to Him I go,
My Cushion of the sea!

THE GRAINFIELDS

(Matthew 12:1-8)

The fields can be anywhere,
The Sabbath, any day,
As long as Jesus Christ is there
And God is on display!

I am strolling through the grainfields with my Savior;
Every hunger, on the way, He satisfies;
I'm enjoying His sweet fellowship and favor;
I am learning what His Sabbath day implies.

He has spread, before my heart, a gracious table
In the presence of my foes, He set me free;
I am strolling through the grainfields with my Savior;
I am walking in His love and liberty!

There are those who speak against this special union;
Not a few, this precious fellowship, contest;
I am strolling through the grainfields with my Savior;
Every day He leads me deeper into rest!

THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD

(Exodus 33:14)

'Tis a blessed contradiction that the cross is my reward;
For one thing alone, my heart will make request:
Not the absence of affliction, but the presence of the Lord;
In the darkest night His fellowship is rest!

I asked the Lord to send a tug
To tear my vessel free
Instead, He sent the rising tide
And gently lifted me!

"Less thorn", I cried, "my grief is great!
Behold my desperate case!"
Instead, He sent a full supply
Of all-sufficient grace!

I asked the Lord to take command
And calm my troubled sea.
Instead, He let the storm rage on,
But whispered, "Peace" to me!

I LOOKED TO JESUS AND, BEHOLD

(Hebrews 12:1,2)

LORD, grace my heart to fix its gaze—
To only Jesus, see!
To never look upon the things
You've added unto me!

I looked to Jesus, and behold
The dove of peace flew in;
The joy of Heaven filled my soul;
Gone, was the guilt of sin.

I thought the gladness that I felt
Had surely come to stay,
But when my eyes fell on the Dove,
At once, it flew away!

I looked to Jesus, and behold
His love began to flow.
And from that river, on my tree
His fruit began to grow!

But when I turned aside to see
The power that was mine—
The precious fruit that grew so fair
Had wilted on the vine!

I looked to Jesus, and behold
My victory was sure.
I found the grace to overcome,
To trust Him and endure.

While gazing on the Lord, Himself
His Life was manifest.
How slippery did the ground become
When I looked at His rest!

NEAR ENOUGH

(Isaiah 6:1-8)

Near enough, to hear His heart beat,
I would be so nigh—
Close enough to catch His passion,
Understand His sigh!

When the Lord breathes out His burden,
There, I long to be
Saying, to His slightest whisper,
“Here am I, send me!”

Many years, in vain I waited
For God's special call,
Hoping that His invitation
On my ear would fall!

In His presence, I no longer
Think His silence, strange.
God was faithful in His calling!
I was out of range!

I have heard the higher calling:
Know Him, and be still!
In my fellowship with Jesus,
I have found His will!

I no longer seek a mission;
He is now my choice!
Now that I have learned the secret,
I can hear His voice!

MY TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS

(Psalm 78:19)

In vain, the springs of earth run dry, I have a fountain still...
An inexhaustible supply that I can tap at will.

Were gold, abundant as the sand, this world could not afford
The Source I have at my right hand, in Jesus Christ my Lord!

He is the bread on which I feed; on Him I've learned to lean;
He satisfies my every need, my tree is evergreen.

In famine, God is my reward; in draught, by faith, I sing
For I have all things in the Lord, and Him in everything!

How rich is my inheritance! The best is unexplored!
My table in the wilderness, is Jesus Christ my Lord!

A SOUND PROOF PAVILION

(Psalm 31:20)

In His arms there is peace and protection.
To this place by His grace, I will flee.
I have found that the Lord's holy presence
Is a sound proof pavilion for me!

I've discovered a sound proof pavilion
Where, in quietness, I can abide;
It's a refuge and rest from the clamor;
It's a safety in which I can hide.

When man's violence rages against me,
And the tongue is as sharp as a sword,
I am deaf to the world in this haven;
I hear only the voice of the Lord!

From conspiracies, here I am sheltered;
From the plots that man's sin may devise;
In this secret place I am defended
From the onslaught of satanic lies!

THERE'S NOTHING LEFT BUT HALLELUJAH

(Revelation 19:6-8)

Nothing left but Hallelujah;
Heaven's joy, on earth, begun.
Praise alone remains unfinished,
All the rest, by God, is done!

Nothing lacking to be added;
Nothing spare, to take away;
Though the debt was overwhelming,
There is nothing left to pay!

In the hour of contemplation,
When the ransom, we review;
We remember all He suffered;
How much praise is overdue!

Hallelujah! It is finished!
All conditions, fully met!
Everlasting hallelujahs
Are but tokens of the debt!

Join the hallelujah chorus;
Grateful hearts, unite as one!
Nothing left but Hallelujah!
Hallelujah to the SON!

FILL THIS HOUSE

(John 12:3)

Fill this house! Fill this house!
With the Glory of Your Presence
Fill this house!

Come and welcome, holy Groom
Have you smelled Your Bride's perfume?
We have filled it for Your filling; Fill this house!

We have filled every corner of this house with praise;
We have offered a sweet savor up above;
We have worshiped at His feet;

Gathered 'round the Mercy Seat;
We have poured out the fragrance of our love!

There are tears of repentance; there are tears of joy;
There are fragments of devotion everywhere.

Like the vial of long ago
Broken hearts release the flow;
The aroma of worship fills the air!

THERE'S A
RIVER OF REFRESHMENT

(Revelation 22:1)

There's a river of refreshment flowing from God's throne;
There's a fountain, big with blessing, found in Christ alone.
Holy Spirit, flood the channel of my life, today,
Flowing over, to others, I pray!

I am His by creation, as the Potter formed the clay;
I am His by redemption, for He washed my sins away.
I'm His gift from the Father; I'm elect by His decree;
I've chosen to be married to the One who first chose me!

I will stand in the river, flowing from the royal Lamb;
I will drink from the fountain, springing from the great I Am;
I will yield to His Spirit, evermore, His life pursue!
Let every family of the earth, be blessed, by seeing You!
