"A SATISFIED HEART"

THE PRAYER OF A LIFE

(Romans 8:28,29)

"Be patient and trust Me, my child;
Our ways are a heaven apart.
Fear not, if your lips do not move Me;
I'm hearing the prayer of your heart!
Don't misjudge My love or My wisdom
In all your confusion and strife;
I bypass the prayer of a moment
To answer the prayer of a life!"

I thought that the LORD did not hear me;
I felt that my prayer was in vain;
I needed to know why He treated me so
As I poured out my problems and pain!

He seemed to ignore my petitions;
He sent me, still burdened, away;
Yet, in my despair I just knew He was there;
In my spirit, I heard Jesus say...

He hears past the words that I utter;
He listens to heartaches and tears.
A groan may be grim but its incense to Him
Who honors the prayer of the years!

He knows the end from the beginning;
He's working for eternity!
His purpose is best! I have found perfect rest
Through the words that were spoken to me...

HE ADDS TO THE BURDEN

(Psalm 55:22)

In mercy He adds to the cross I must carry
In grace every trial by Him is bestowed;
He knows in my weakness, I'll run straight to Jesus
He adds to the burden to lighten the load!

Some burdens, I try, in my own strength to carry
Some problems, I think my own wisdom can solve;
So God adds a weight, then I run from beneath it;
I cry to the Lord and the pressures dissolve!

The Lord knows my frame and the strength of my shoulder;
He knows how I struggle, my labor He sees;
And in His great wisdom, He adds an affliction;
Proportioned in love to bring me to my knees!

HINDS FEET

(Psalm 18:33; Habakkuk 3:19)

He gives me hind's feet for high places;
The Savior is loving and kind;
My place may not change, but God will arrange
To grant me the feet He designed.
By grace, He replaces my feet in high places…
He gives me the feet of a hind!

Sure-footed on the heights and on the hazards;
I run in slippery places like the hind;
Where God has called, my heart shall be established;
He keeps the feet on paths He has assigned!

Without His grace, on level ground, I'd stumble;
From every enemy I would retreat!
But God has raised me high upon the mountains;
He's worked a miracle upon my feet!

I will not shun the peaks of exaltation;
Nor, will I fear to soar where eagles glide;
The Lord can hold me up in any station;
He can secure my heart against its pride!

In freedom I will leap o'er cleft and crevice;
His will is just as safe as it is sweet;
If God should ever call me to high places,
I know He will prepare me with hind's feet!

YET, WILL I SING

(Habakkuk 3:17-19)

What though, the fig tree never bears a blossom;
What though, there be no fruit upon the vines;
What though, the yield of every olive, fails;
What though, the produce of the field declines!
Yet will I sing--For God is my Salvation!
Yet will I trust--For God is on His throne!
Yet will I hope--For all things work together!
Yet will I rest, upon the Lord, alone!

I love Him when the hedge is high;
When blessings flow; when God is nigh;
I trust Him when my mountain stands secure;
When grass is green; when south winds blow;
A harvest crowns the seed I sow;
My faith is great, when everything is sure!

But when the hedge no longer shades;
When rivers dry; His presence, fades;
When mountains shake, and slip into the sea;
When wilting winds come forth from God;
The seed decays beneath the clod--
THE LORD HIMSELF MUST BE MY JUBILEE!

THE LIFTER OF MY HEAD

(Psalm 3:3)

My Head is Jesus, and God lifted Him to die upon the tree;
My Head was lifted high above the grave; above sin's penalty!
How can I ever be discouraged; ever, any danger, dread?
HE is my Shield, and my Glory, and the Lifter of my Head!

Sometimes, I look at my corruption, and my head is bowed in shame;
My heart is saddened by the scandal I have heaped upon His name,
But when I look away to Jesus as the Portion of my cup—
He takes the burden from my shoulders, and my head is lifted up!

When I have battled with temptations; I am weary from the war;
When I have suffered in my body and my flesh can take no more;
When I am baffled by His judgments; when I feel all alone;
He lifts my focus up to Heaven where my Head reigns, on the throne!

When I incline to be despondent, and my head is drooping low;
When I grow weary in well-doing; become indolent and slow,
I look away from my condition, and I look at Him instead—
I cannot look upon the Savior without lifting up my head!

PRESS ON

(Philippians 3:12-14)

Press on! Press on! To run, you are resigned!
Let every weight be laid aside of every size and kind.
Whatever hinders, in the race,
Or contradicts the life of Grace,
Whatever veils His lovely face
Forget, and leave behind!

Press on! Press on! By grace you have begun!
The race depends upon the LORD, and not the way you run!
From sin, the Lord has set you free;
Forget, even your victory;
The Lord is all you need to see!
He ran the race, and won!

Press on! Press on! His Grace will see you through!
Wait on the Lord, O weary one! Your strength He will renew!
The time for running swiftly flies;
Uncumbered by all earthly ties,
Press on, for Jesus is the prize!
The ribbon is in view!

STRETCH FORTH YOUR HAND

(Luke 6:10)

Every precept is a promise; every duty, a delight;
All the power to perform, the gospel brings!
He will do it by His Spirit; not by power or by might!
When He bids you fly, He always grants you wings!

Though nature's arm be shriveled and impossible to raise;
Although it will not move upon demand;
His Grace imparts the needed life to lift it up in praise!
By faith, you may stretch forth your withered hand!

Receive the Lord's commandments with His bountiful supplies;
He calls you to His high and holy way!
Stretch forth your hand and claim from Him, the Grace His law implies!
The Lord has made it easy to obey!

The Grace to love your neighbor and forgive your enemy;
To be content; to take a rugged stand;
To overcome temptation and to claim the victory--
The Lord deposits, in the withered hand!

THE EYE OF FAITH

(Matthew 6:22,23)

An eye cannot itself behold! It was not thus designed!
Without an object, it can never see.
So faith must look away from faith, if it would not be blind.
Lord, help our faith to focus more on Thee!

It matters not if faith be small, as is the mustard seed;
It is not faith that must pluck up the tree!
Our faith embraces Christ, as All; The Lord must meet the need!
He uproots sin, and casts it in the sea!

Lord, we would not Thy Spirit grieve; our time on earth is brief!
Thy blessings are too many to record!
In faith we pray, “Lord we believe, but help our unbelief”
We need a vital vision of the Lord!

SPEAK TO THE ROCK

(Numbers 20:8)

Speak! Speak! Speak to the Rock,
Once riven for you, long ago!
Speak! Speak! Speak to the Rock!
Drink deep from its life-giving flow!

Just speak to the Rock! Only ask, and believe;
From Heaven, God's blessings will pour.
There's life in abundance for all to receive,
He needs to be smitten no more!

Just speak to the Rock! You will not be denied,
From wounds in the Rock, rivers burst;
The Lord is delighted your needs to provide,
By grace, that will satisfy thirst!

Just speak to the Rock! Never doubt or delay;
This fountain will never run dry;
The Rock of Salvation will hear when you pray,
And answer, with endless supply!

Just speak to the Rock, by the rod, opened wide;
With boldness, each burden, declare!
The grace that sprung forth, on the cross when He died,
Continues, in answer to prayer!

PRAYER

(Ephesians 3:20)

All that you ask, the Savior will hear;
Beyond all you ask, He will do;
Abundantly far beyond your request
The Lord will accomplish for you;
Exceeding abundantly, and far beyond
Whatever you think or you say,
According to riches abundant in Jesus,
The Lord will respond when you pray!

THE LORD IS OUR SUPPLY

(II Kings 4:1-7)

The widow looked at the oil in her jar;
She saw in her hand, the flour.
It seemed, at first sight, that she and her son,
Had come to their final hour.

But the Lord reached out in her great ordeal;
He laid His hand on her final meal!
It was not exhausted; they did not die!
The Lord was her supply!

The fisherman stared at the fish and the bread
He held in his massive hand.
He looked at the crowds assembled to eat;
He saw supply and demand!

But the Lord came through and beyond all doubt,
He could not hold what he handed out!
The loaves were anointed! Who can deny
The Lord was his supply!

Just so, we are tempted to walk by sight;
We fear, as the brook runs dry!
We forget that the morsel in our hand
Is symbol of full supply!

But the Lord makes a harvest of every seed;
And in His faithfulness meets our need!
He never forsakes us! He hears our cry!
The Lord is our supply!

A HELP IS GOD, IN TROUBLE

(Psalm 46)

A Help is God, in trouble;
A Present Help is He!
A Very Present Help, indeed,
My Refuge is to me!

Let stars fly from their orbits;
Slide, mountains, in the sea;
Let nations totter on the earth.
God is a Help to me!

The world may change around me;
I have no cause for fear;
Though trouble looms on every hand,
My Help is very near!

There is a living River,
No trouble can destroy.
Amid the roar of worldly floods,
Its streams are ever joy!

“Be still!” He whispers to me,
As on the coals I trod.
“Be still”, cries out my Present Help,
“And know that I am God!”

OUR HEAD IS OVER THERE

(Ephesians 1:20-23)

At the right hand of the Father;
In the heavens is His seat;
Far above all rule and power;
All dominion, at His feet!
The raging billows we can bear,
For our Head is over there!

Our Head is high above the water,
Where no flood can pull it down!
We breathe the air and life of Heaven;
Nothing can, the body drown!

Let tempests beat against the members,
There is nothing we will dread;
The waves can never pull us under
While, exalted is our Head!

AS A LILY GROWS

(Matthew 6:28)

As a lily grows, I long to grow, composed and labor free.
By the beauty of the inner life, without anxiety;
Let me learn the living lesson from the lily in the sod;
That the world may see the glory of the growth that comes from God !

By accretion I was growing into layers, day by day;
I had all the angles, outward form, and orderly display.
By additions to my busy life, into a gem I'd grown,
I was lovely like a crystal, but as lifeless as a stone!

My poor heart was cold and barren, and I lacked God's inner peace;
I was growing from the outside, with an icicle's increase!
I was bonding to externals; those around me did not know
How deceptive was expansion! I did not know how to grow!

I remembered what the Savior said, so very long ago;
When He asked us to consider how the fairest lilies grow;
Now, I'm growing from the inside; my entire life is new!
I am trusting Jesus as my Life--my sunlight, soil and dew!

JUST SWEEP ME UP TO HEAVEN, LORD

(2 CORINTHIANS 12:1-10)

But, Jesus answered tenderly, “I see your hungry heart;
But there are things to know of Me that Heaven can't impart!
The crown will soon enough be worn, when nothing more of worth
Can manifest Me through the thorn you bear, by grace, on Earth!”

Just sweep me up to Heaven, Lord, where angels sing Thy praise;
Where secrets of Thy heart are stored; where I can fully gaze!
One day in Heaven would suffice—where crystal waters flow!
Please, catch me up to Paradise ! Thy heart I long to know!

Just sweep me up to Heaven, Lord, where tears and trials cease;
Where worship is in one accord; where all is perfect peace;
Where sin no longer can molest; where I can see Thy face;
Where nothing interrupts my rest; where glory swallows grace!

CLEANSE THIS
TEMPLE

(John 2:13-22)

Cleanse this temple, Lord I pray
Turn the tables, Lord, today
Take Thy scourge, cleanse every part;
Cleanse Thy temple; cleanse my heart!

Lord, my heart, Thy Spirit grieves;
Sin has made a den of thieves.
Enter sovereign, do not spare!
Make my heart a house of prayer!

Money changers all about,
Cleanse Thy temple, drive them out!
Now, with zeal, Thy work begun,
Purge until Thy work is done!

Cleanse Thy temple; claim Thy right;
Put Thine enemies to flight;
God of Judgment, God of Grace,
Fill Thyself, the empty place!

Then once more, Thy temple own;
As the Lamb upon the throne!
As of old, Thy temple fill!
Cleanse Thy temple; do Thy will!

I TOUCHED HIS HEM

(Mark 5:25-34)

He came within my reach, to reach me;
Kinsman-Savior, He drew nigh;
The shadow of the Master's mantle,
Covered me, as He passed by.
Covered me, as He passed by.

I stretched, in trembling desperation
Toward the Lord, when hope was dim,
My hand fell on His outer garment,
But my faith laid hold of Him!
But my faith laid hold of Him!

He felt my faith! He set me free!
What awesome sensitivity!
No One but He could life impart;
I touched His hem; He touched my heart!

CREATE, OUT OF NOTHING

(Genesis 1:1,2)

Dread not being empty; fear not to be weak
When "nothing" is all that there is,
The Lord is delighted with nothing, to speak;
That way, all the glory is His!

From nothing, the pillars of Heaven were laid;
From nothing, this world came to be;
My heart is encouraged through all that was made
That nothing's required of me!

Create out of nothing, in me, a clean heart;
Brood over the chaos, I pray;
My world is confusion; Thy Spirit impart;
Speak light into darkness today!

Bring life out of nothing, and make these bones live!
Creator, send forth Thy command;
Reveal to the world through the nothing I give
What nothing can be in Thy hand!

FALL AS THE DEW

(Hosea 14:5-7)

Fall as the dew on your darling;
Bruised reeds, in mercy, reclaim;
Command refreshment from Heaven;
Fan smoking flax into flame!

Somewhere a wasteland is willing;
Thirsty, some field of grain;
Drooping, some flower is pining;
Parched, cries some pasture for rain!

Visit the tree of Your planting;
Water the languishing root;
Quicken the buds and the blossoms;
Grant the abundance of fruit!

Exceed our small expectations;
Make us, of You, more aware!
You are the Life we are seeking!
Lord, over-answer our prayer!

GOD HAS A TIME

(John 2:4,11)

God has an hour; a moment divine,
When He will transform the water to wine.
When God is ready, His glory will shine!
Wait for His purpose! God has a time!

Job learned the secret of waiting on God,
In His great trials, when under the rod.
Patience prevailed, the Scriptures record
Blessing is great in the “end of the Lord”!

Mary and Martha knew not how to pray;
The Lord was testing their faith, by delay.
By all appearance, the Lord was too late,
But, faith discovered His timing was great!

Tears of impatience, the Savior will wipe;
God will respond when His purpose is ripe.
Clear, it will be when the tempest is past,
Jesus was saving the best wine ‘til last!

THE CLOUD

(I KINGS 18:41 -46)

Seven times, express your burden to your Father,
For His faithfulness is vaster than the sea;
Do not falter or grow weary in your asking,
Come before Him with a child's dependency!
Do not trust in prayer, but rest upon the Savior!
It's before the Lord, your humble soul has bowed!
Pray, then watch for Him in earnest expectation!
He has promised, He'd be coming in a cloud!

I can hear the sound of thunder in my spirit;
I can sense a season of refreshing rain;
I know God is ready to pour out His blessing,
Beyond anything this vessel can contain!

I've received an earnest in my heart from Heaven,
High above what mortal mind can understand.
Faith has caught the vision of a mighty torrent
In the cloud no larger than a human hand!

God is not restrained at all in His Salvation;
He can work a grand effect without a cause;
He transcends the world of nature He created;
He is not confined by any of its laws;

He can change the course of history in a moment,
By a rod, a stone, or by a sleepless night;
He can use a raven, jawbone or a tent peg;
Or support His Temple by a widow's mite!

God is moving in the trite and in the trifles;
Things of insignificance are His domain;
It's His glory to use instruments of weakness;
And to sanctify the petty and mundane!

I am learning how to pray in expectation;
Reap a harvest from each field prayer has plowed;
I am looking for the Lord in all that happens;
I am seeing Him in every little cloud!

WHEN GOD DELAYS

(John 11:4)

When God delays, it is time for praise
There is blessing unforeseen!
We still can rest; it is just a test
When He doesn't intervene!
By faith we wait, though the Lord seems late
He has better things in store;
We will abide, when the tears have dried
We will know Him even more!

Their faith was tried when their brother died—
His dear friends at Bethany
They thought they knew what the Lord would do,
But He moved in mystery!

The word seemed clear; He would soon appear!
But He let His friend succumb!
They were content that He could prevent
But He longed to overcome!

O how we fret, and our cheeks are wet
When we do not understand!
We worry so, and we do not know
What the Lord above has planned!

How did they feel in their great ordeal
When the stone was rolled away?
Once it was done, and the victory won,
Then they praised Him for delay!

THERE'S A RAM ON THE BLIND SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN

( Genesis 22:13 )

There's a ram on the blind side of the mountain
It is hidden from the slope that you must climb;
It ascends by mysterious appointment,
Ever moving toward the fulness of God's time!

Abraham found the ram when he was tested,
As he reached the altar, where his faith was tried!
You will see, at the summit of God's purpose
His provision, climbing up the other side!

God may wait until your Isaac is surrendered;
He may wait until the knife is in your hand!
God is faithful! Do not fear to climb the mountain!
When you see the ram, your heart will understand!

SPEAK TO THE ROCK

(Numbers 20:8)

Speak! Speak! Speak to the Rock,
Once riven for you, long ago!
Speak! Speak! Speak to the Rock!
Drink deep from its life-giving flow!

Just speak to the Rock! Only ask, and believe;
From Heaven, God's blessings will pour.
There's life in abundance for all to receive,
He needs to be smitten no more!

Just speak to the Rock! You will not be denied,
From wounds in the Rock, rivers burst;
The Lord is delighted, your needs to provide,
By grace, that will satisfy thirst!

Just speak to the Rock! Never doubt or delay;
This fountain will never run dry;
The Rock of Salvation will hear when you pray,
And answer, with endless supply!

Just speak to the Rock, by the rod, opened wide;
With boldness, each burden, declare!
The grace that sprung forth, on the cross when He died,
Continues, in answer to prayer!

THERE'S A TEAR IN MY TENT

(2Cor 4:16 -18; John 2:10 )

There is a tear in my tent, but not my temple;
And my inner man grows stronger every day.
As my lesser lights grow dim, I'm depending more on Him,
There's a Treasure in this vessel made of clay.

God must take the staging down, of this creation;
Even now, the timbers creak; the end's in view.
As the old things pass away, I will praise Him day by day,
For the process by which God makes all things new!

Do not gaze upon my frail and time-worn body;
In the ruins, there resides a Life Divine!
Here, my heart and flesh must fail, yet I live within the veil;
God Himself is serving me the latter wine!

God is building me! O priceless contemplation!
Very soon the things that bother, will be past;
When His work in me is done, I'll be like His Darling Son;
And I'll know He saved the very best 'til last!

THE FRINGES OF HIS WAYS

(Job 26:14; Habakkuk 3:4)

How faint a word we hear of all His glory;
How shallow runs the water of our praise;
The heavens are the hiding of His power;
Our faith beholds the fringes of His ways!

He spoke! The worlds appeared!
He spread through space, His splendor;
He set the boundaries of the stars and seas.
By Him, the darkness cleared!
The angels in surrender,
Rejoiced and worshipped God for His decrees!

He loved! The Heavens bowed!
The everlasting Stranger,
Whose goings forth are from eternity,
Was born—as prophets vowed—
And laid within a manger
God came to earth to die upon a tree!

He rose! Death lost its sting!
The king of terrors perished!
The vital knot, the Victor has untied!
He Lives! The Groom will bring
The loved ones you have cherished,
To live with Him, when God makes up His Bride!

He reigns! He sits above,
Upon a throne of glory!
Unveiled, some day, we'll see Him face to face!
But here, as King of Love,
In times dim territory,
We must behold Him on the throne of Grace!

DON'T MISJUDGE THE JUDGE BY APPEARANCE

(Luke 18:1-8)

A wicked judge lived in the city
Who feared neither God, nor loved men,
Yet, one day He rescued a widow
Who bothered him, time and again.
It looked like the judge had compassion,
Was eager to help the distressed,
But, deep in his heart he responded
For she was disturbing his rest!

A righteous Judge rules up in Heaven;
Who loves you as He loves His Son.
Don't misjudge the Judge by appearance,
Or question the things He has done.
Do not hold His love in suspicion
When outwardly, there is delay.
He answers before you petition;
You don't have to beg when you pray!

Don't misjudge the Judge by appearance,
No need to repeat your complaint;
There's no need to fret or be anxious,
No reason to let your heart faint.
Gods' not like the judge in the story;
He loves you, so be not afraid.
Don't misjudge the judge by appearance,
Be not like the woman who prayed!

A SATISFIED HEART

(John 16:23)

“How many ranges do you see
Stretched out before your view?"
The blind man asked his faithful guide,
“Do you see wildlife too?
What kind of clouds? Are flow'rs in bloom?
Is this day dark or bright?
Do pilgrims walk the trails beneath?
Is there a stream in sight?”
Each answer spawned a question more
Betraying he was blind;
When vision fails, the questions come
To satisfy the mind!

If that same man received his sight,
Stood in that very place;
With his new eyes beheld the scenes
His guide had once to trace—
Do you think questions would arise
As all around he saw?
Or would he simply take it in
And stand in silent awe?
The gift of vision is the voice
That speaks a sacred peace;
A revelation is the grace
That bids all questions cease!

The day the Holy Spirit comes
In fullness to abide,
Like blind men who've received their sight
Our eyes will open wide!
We'll see and understand the things
That God has longed to share;
The hidden treasures of the Lord
Our blindness could not bear!
So come Lord Jesus, show Thyself
Our hearts await the day
When Thou art all our faith can see
And questions melt away!
